Drink Up!

Cats and water.  Some cats seem to think drinking out of the toilet is cool (they’ve been watching the dog most likely!)  Some cats think it’s fun to play in the shower or the sink–while the water is running.  Ok, that rarely happens in most feline households!  Most of the time cats and water just don’t mix!  However, I found something you’ve just got to check out!

Drinkwell Mini Fountain

Due to the fact that most cats eat a dry kibble diet, cats just don’t get enough moisture in their diet.  Hydration and water intake is imperative to overall health, especially when it comes to kidney function.  How often do you see them actually drink out of a water bowl?  Why not?  Perhaps because they just are not compelled to drink.  Even if you have reverse osmosis water or a great water filtration system, they still may turn their noses up.  Or maybe because it’s boring!  So what can you do as a cat parent to entice your kitties to drink more?  Give them a water fountain!

I first got the idea of trying a water fountain a few years back when a couple of my kitties used to like to drink out of the faucet.  Then my friend Lisa got a water fountain for her cats, and it was a big hit–so I got one, too!   All my cats love to drink out of it, and I have to keep filling it up throughout the week–what a great problem to have!  Some prefer to drink out of the flowing water and others prefer to drink out of the basin itself.   If your kitty is developing or already has feline kidney disease it makes it very easy to monitor their water intake.

Check out these cool fountains by Drinkwell.   They are super easy to clean and maintain, too.  You can extend the life of the motor by cleaning it on a weekly basis.  I put the motor in a big cup or glass with a blend of warm water and vinegar and plug it in for about 30-60 minutes. The charcoal filters last me 3-4 weeks, and it’s easy to buy replacement filters.  These great fountains , filters, and cleaning kit are available in my Boutique for Cats store, which is NOW OPEN!😊

My cats can’t wait for me to finish cleaning it.  In fact, Hershey usually lets me know if it’s taking too long.  😼
