Life-Saving Cat Therapy

Therapy cats for soldiers

Cat Therapy

As cat moms and dads we understand how deep the bond is between us and our cats.  Sometimes it’s even hard to put into words because the love is so deep and profound.  Our cats do so much more than beg us for food and treats, lie around and snooze in cute positions, and greet us at the door when we come home.  They are there for us on a spiritual level.  They comfort us when we are sad; they provide companionship when we feel lonely; they give us a reason to get out of bed when we feel like we can’t.  They give us purpose and unconditional love when it feels like the rest of the world is against us.  They connect with us on a soul level!

Cats help veterans heal mind and body

As our nation pauses to celebrate our country’s birthday this week we are reminded of the tremendous price countless brave men and women have paid in the pursuit of freedom.  It’s a beautiful time for reflection, unity, and gratitude.  What can often be overlooked is the emotional price our brave soldiers pay upon returning to “civilian life” and the difficulty of living what many of us consider to be a “normal” life again.  Many veterans end up on powerful medication for PTSD, have trouble holding down a regular job, and struggle relating to their own family members again.  Cats can be a tremendous therapeutic support system during this adjustment period.  They also provide that unconditional love, emotional support and the reason to get out of bed each day for soldiers who have been through traumatic injuries and situations while serving their country.

In honor of our military and in celebration of our love for cats I wanted to share with you a heart-warming story about a special kitty and how he saved the life of one particular veteran.  Bring the Kleenex–you may shed a tear or two, but I think it will be worth it!

Wishing you and your kitties a safe and happy Fourth of July!

It appears you really DID clear the obsessiveness of Libby asking and going nutso as I get out and prep her canned food. She is giving me space (not underfoot), less verbally meowing like crazy and this morning she knew I was prepping the food and it was so quiet I turned around and she wasn't even in the kitchen anymore, even though she knew I was prepping her food. THAT's a first.
