Detox Vaccines In Cats Naturally

Natural vaccine detox for cats

I’m seeing it more and more with cat clients I work with:  vaccines are resonating as stressors.  And this hurts my heart!  What cat parents need to know is that vaccines do not come without risk.  Serious, chronic diseases can develop as a result of vaccines, as well as immediate acute symptoms.  This is why you should consider doing a vaccine detox protocol.  In order to restore your cat’s vital force and rebalance its body I want to share with you some important tips on how to detox vaccines in your cat.

Be smart about giving vaccinations

First, let’s talk about some simple dos and don’ts regarding vaccines for cats.  Integrative and holistic vets recommend never giving more than one vaccine at a time.  For example, never give the FVRCP AND rabies vaccines together.  Secondly, always wait at least 4 weeks before giving another vaccine.  This is important because it gives the immune system time to calm down before administering another shot designed to get an immune response via the adjuvants in the vaccine.  Thirdly, sometimes adverse effects don’t even show up until about 30 days later.  If your cat has any kind of adverse reaction, the very last thing you want to do is give another vaccine.

Finally, consider is the risk of contracting the disease you’re vaccinating for.  How likely is your cat to contract the disease? Depending on how you can answer these questions, re-vaccinating may not be necessary nor be safe for your cat.

  • Does your cat live indoors or outdoors?
  • Does your cat come in contact with other cats besides your own?
  • Is the cat a senior?
  • Does your cat have any underlying disease or health condition that is contraindicated for vaccination?
  • Has your cat already been vaccinated?
  • Has your cat ever had an adverse reaction from a vaccine?

Instead of automatically re-vaccinating, ask your vet to do a titer test.  A titer test measures the levels of antibodies in the blood that provide an immune response to a given stimulus.  In this case, the stimulus would be the distemper virus, rabies virus, Calicivirus, etc.   If the cat has a positive titer no additional vaccine is needed.

Examples of adverse reactions from vaccines

Interestingly, adverse reactions can result immediately or even 30 days or more from the vaccination date.  According to one source, the most common that normally occur within the first 24 hours include:

  • Fever
  • Tenderness
  • Facial swelling
  • Hives
  • Swollen nymph nodes
  • Vomiting
  • Diarrhea
  • Acute liver & kidney failure

Chronic diseases or disorders include:

  • Seizure disorders
  • Immune suppression that may last for up to seven days
  • Lupus,
  • Pemphigus
  • Rheumatoid arthritis
  • Autoimmune platelet and red blood cell disorders
  • Skin and ear allergies
  • Food allergies
  • Inflammatory bowel disease
  • Hyperthyroidism (cats) and hypothyroidism (dogs)
  • Injection site fibrosarcomas (aggressive, malignant cancers) may appear months to years after receiving a feline leukemia or rabies vaccination
  • Eosinophilic skin disorders*
  • Feline asthma*

How to detox vaccines safely, effectively

Now that you can identify the numerous possible adverse reactions perhaps it makes common sense why detoxing vaccines is not only important but necessary.  In the clients I work with I find that a vaccine detox protocol is not always a one-size-fits-all approach; therefore, it really boils down to what resonates with your cat.  Furthermore, besides the immune system, there are other organs and body systems to support during this process, namely the liver and lymphatic system.

The primary role of the liver is to filter the blood coming from the digestive tract, detoxify chemicals and metabolize drugs.  If the liver is sluggish it cannot perform these tasks effectively.  In addition to the liver, the lymphatic system consists of organs and tissues that help remove toxins, waste, and other materials out of the body through a system of drainage pathways.  Collectively the liver and lymphatic system must be working optimally in order for a detox program to be effective.  Therefore, we must include liver and lymphatic support whenever implementing a vaccine detox protocol.

Homeopathy for detoxing vaccines

In traditional veterinary homeopathy there are several remedies that are used to detox vaccines.  The most common include thuja, sulphur, calc carb, apis mel, silicea, malandrinum, graphites and sepia.  Remedies can also vary depending if the cat also has a chronic disease.  In order to determine which one is a match for your cat, the physical signs, symptoms, emotions, and behaviors associated with each remedy are matched to those of the pet.

Anna Borenstein’s article in Dogs Naturally describes symptoms and the corresponding remedy for dogs…but I would venture to guess these may also apply in cats.

  • Generals, convulsions, vaccination after: Silica, Thuja
  • Mentals, anxiety, vaccination after: Thuja
  • Eye, inflammation, vaccination after: Thuja
  • Stomach, nausea, vaccination after: Silica
  • Rectum, diarrhea, vaccination after: Silica, Thuja
  • Respiration, asthmatic, vaccination after: Thuja
  • Cough, vaccination after: Thuja
  • Extremities, paralysis, lower limbs, vaccination after: Thuja
  • Extremities, swelling general, upper limbs, vaccination after: Silica, Sulphur, Thuja (in dogs, this generally corresponds to a lump at the injection site)
  • Skin, eczema, vaccination after: Mezereum (thick, hard scabs), Sulphur (red, itchy eruptions)
  • High fever:  Belladonna
  • Allergic reactions, facial or throat swelling:  Apis

In addition to symptoms I also use muscle testing to see which remedy resonates with the cat. This is the body’s way of telling me exactly what it needs and how often in order to restore balance to its vital force.  In general, with cats I have worked with the protocol for dosing ranges from 1-3 times a day for around eight days.  For chronic conditions I find the 200C potency to be indicated while a 30C is suited for acute conditions; for instance, right after or a few days after vaccines are given.

Detoxing a rabies vaccine

Still legally required by all states, the rabies vaccine has its own set of issues.  In an article by Dr. Will Falconer, DVM, he includes a chart by Dr. Richard Pitcairn describing symptoms of adverse reactions to a rabies shot in dogs that reflects that actual symptoms of the disease itself:

  • Fear of water
  • Restlessness
  • Suspicious of other people, pets, distrusting
  • Aggression
  • Desire to kill other animals
  • Aloof
  • Tendency to escape confinement, roaming
  • Hysterical, violent behavior under restraint
  • Poor appetite, finicky
  • Pica (eating non-food items, include stools)
  • Destructive behavior
  • Loss of sight, cataracts
  • Full or partial paralysis
  • Irregular pulse, heart failure
  • Sexual aggression
  • Seizures
  • “Reverse” sneezing

Certainly the best known homeopathic remedy for detoxing the rabies vaccine is Lyssin; however, it is not the only one that can be used.  Others include belladonna, calc carb, arsenicum, iodium, mercurius, sulphur, nat mur, phosphorus and more.  Again, the symptoms determine which remedy is the best match, and muscle testing can verify this.  Similarly, in chronic conditions the 200C tends to work best and the 30C can be given post vaccination.

Liver and lymphatic support during vaccine detox

In my experience working with cats needing a vaccine detox I find they need one of two liver support products:  milk thistle or Detox Blend by Animal Essentials. In addition, for lymphatic support and keeping the drainage pathways open and flowing I recommend Lymphatic Care by Newton Homeopathics or other lymphatic product.  Typically these products are given twice a day for three weeks.

In summary, given the potential for adverse reactions from any vaccine it’s smart to consider a detox protocol. Using natural products like homeopathy and herbals geared toward liver support can help detox vaccine materials and rebalance the body’s vital force.  In addition, being smart about how many vaccines to give your cat and how often will also have a huge impact its long term health.  Ultimately, your cat doesn’t have to become a victim of vaccination!

My cat is now 3. My daughter got her from county as a kitten & got all those shots to be adopted in Oct one yr. By Dec, cat’s rear feet was pointing outward I thought weird, & seemed as tho rear wasn’t as high up as should be. In Jan, my daughter brought her to me…cat lost rear limbs strength. By few months it worsened to front limbs, but I wasn’t gonna give up on her. She was crawling spread out like a frog. I gave her extra water ea dy, prayed everyday, tried acupuncture 2x/wk for 2months (think did help eventually) & gave an immune liquid. One day she got up to walk & I cried…few months b4 the 1yr mark of deteriorating, she was getting better & was able get up on bottom of a fireplace. I went on vacation to Mountains & she needed her 1yr appt. I agreed to the Rabies shot “just be safe” while in the woods. That was BIG mistake. That progress went back again…but only now affects the rear gait/limbs. A whole yr I let go by thinking nothing I can do…this just her now. Now 3 & I still want help her & now feel was the shots all along to do this. The vet agreed no more shots after she seen her get worse again after that Rabies. Sometimes her rear feet even go back behind her as if she is paralyzed, but she can pull them back up/around to realign her. I had to make a special litter box too & help her raise her tailbone when she poo’s. Is it too late try help her & anything I can try?

    • Pam Roussell says:

Bless her heart! You need to detox the rabies vaccines, liver and rebuild her immune system. I can help you with these protocols if you’d like to do an Optimal Cat Health Analysis. All my work is done remotely regardless where you live. I also strongly agree– no more vaccines.

Hi Pam, my cat Boots is 1 year and 4 months old and I just got his updated vaccines today. They gave him the Rabies, FVRCP, FeLV, and Feline Leukemia shot today. After we got home he started throwing up everywhere and be some very lethargic. And hour and a half later he threw up some more. I called the vet and they tried to blame it on car sickness but we told them his face was swollen at first when we got home. They told us to bring him back in, so we did and they gave him a shot of Benadryl. When we got home he threw up again. He’s been grooming himself non stop and I read that over grooming is due to itchy skin from an allergic reaction. Can you please help tell me how to detox him??

    • Pam Roussell says:

Oh dear! It definitely sounds like an adverse reaction to the combo wombo vaccines. Reach out to me directly and let’s do an Optimal Cat Health analysis and get a customized protocol to detox these followed by detailed suggestions for rebuilding his immune system.

Hi! a month after vaccinating my cat for the first time, her lymph nodes were swollen and the use of nutraceuticals has not helped, you mention two products in the article that I would like to buy one is for liver detox and another is for lymphatic support. I am from Spain, could you help me to know where I can get these products with shipping to Europe? Thank you

  4. Debbie Di says:

My perfectly healthy rambunctious 7 year old boy Max received his rabies vaccine and within 20 minutes (we live close to the vet) was running around the vomiting everywhere. We got him back in the carrier and as we were driving back to the vet he began hyperventilating and struggling to breathe, then diarrhea everywhere. Luckily he survived, HOWEVER he developed an autoimmune disease several months later and now $4000 later is still not well and suffering. I am SO SO angry that these idiots on the town/city councils make these laws with absolutely NO medical background, no veterinary input, and ignore the pleadings of the few vets who come forward with the research and the sad stories of pets who were killed or severely harmed. My cats are all indoor, never outside, and have no opportunity to ever catch rabies. I am not doing this again!

    • Pam Roussell says:

This is SO heartbreaking and I’m so sorry. I couldn’t agree more with your comment about the laws and this is all the more reason we as pet parents need to make our voices heard at the local levels. Follow Dr. John Robb at Protectthepets.com and learn how we can all help get the laws changed in our own states.

  5. Sherri says:

I brought my cat Mindy for a check up and she was given a clean bill of health. A rabies vaccine was recommended and I consented (asked for the 1 year vaccine instead of the 3 year one). Within weeks she stopped eating and was very lethargic. I brought her to the vet and her red blood cell count was 7. She needed an immediate blood transfusion and was put on prednisolone (5mg twice a day). She was diagnosed with an acute immunize response to the vaccine. She is fine as long as I keep giving her two 5mg tablets of predisolone daily. When trying to wean her off of the steroid, her red blood cell count drops each time. Her body is making red blood cells but her immune system is killing them off before they are able to replenish. Ideally I’d love for her to be off the steroid and back to her happy and healthy self. She is only 2 and a half years old and it’s so sad to see her sick. Is there anything you can recommend? The vet I go to is in to holistic treatments and gave me an anti vax liquid to administer but I can’t get it into my poor baby. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated!

    • Pam Roussell says:

Sherri! My heart broke when I read your story. You’re describing immune-mediated hemolytic anemia, a life threatening condition caused by an adverse reaction to the rabies vaccine. This is a very serious case, and I’d be happy to refer you to an integrative vet who does remote appointments with lots of natural treatments and tools as well as a background in conventional medicine, too. As a cat parent the first thing I would do is detox the vaccine energetically with the homeopathic remedy Lyssin, probably a 30C potency, as well as liver support with Detox Blend by Animal Essentials. Reach out to me directly at pam@purrrfectlyholistic for more details. Sending your precious Mindy lots of love, prayers and healing energy!

  6. Jayne Schmitz says:

My beautifl 8.5 year old red Abby girl was perfectly healthy, after surviving a milder reaction to Rabies Vaccine in 2017, which my Vet then administered Entrapal and Renal Support medicine for the last 3 years, She was just administered her 2020 Rabies vaccine, as my Vet says it the LAW, meanwhile she is an indoor petite cat weighing a whole 6 lbs. Well she went into kidney failure within 7 days, and passed just 2 days ago, I am so upset with myself for going against my gut feeling to not get another Rabies Vaccine, and so upset with my Vet as he has seen her since 2012 and knew her history. I will never bring my remaining boy Abby to him or get another vaccination again. Beware fellow animal lovers, Big Pharma is pushing these vaccines. Unfortunately by beautiful girl paid the ultimate price, sad in NJ

    • Pam Roussell says:

This broke my heart! I have tears in my eyes after reading what happened to your beautiful girl. I’m so very sorry that veterinary medicine has failed you in such a tragic way. It has happened to me, too, and I know the pain personally. We must stand up and say no to Big Pharma–and our vets at times, too.

  7. Claudine says:

My 8 year old male kitty recently received a rabies shot and now his personality has drastically changed. He was a super friendly, trusting cat. Now he is very skittish and the light has gone from his eyes. I am so heartbroken that I consented to the thing that has changed him so much. I really want to try and reverse this

    • Pam Roussell says:

Claudine, this is heartbreaking to hear! I’m truly sorry and understand your desire to help him. I believe there is hope that we can detox the vaccine and restore his immune system using nutraceuticals, herbal and homeopathic medicine. Reach out to me if you are interested in learning more or check out the Optimal Cat Health Analysis service I offer.

  8. Alyssa says:

They made my 10 year old perfectly healthy calico cat get a feline distemper and rabies vaccination at the same time. I asked them if I had to get the shots beforehand and they said you don’t have to but it’s city ordinance. now she has pancreatitis and liver disease and we’re nursing her back to health after hundreds and hundreds of dollars. The day she got the shot she had a perfect bill of health from the doctor and now they’re not taking any responsibility whatsoever for it. Memorial drive vet clinic Manitowoc Wisconsin.

    • Pam Roussell says:

Alyssa, this is so heartbreaking to hear–I’m truly sorry. I would report this to the FDA as a case of adverse reaction to vaccines since obviously the vet clinic isn’t going to. Depending on how she’s doing, reach out if you’re interested in learning if using homeopathy to detox these vaccines would help. I’m happy to do a quick muscle test for you at no charge. I hope your precious girl makes a full recovery!

  9. Sandy M. says:

This was an excellent article! I hope that someday, vets will administer kitten shots and then say, “and here’s how to detox them afterwards”. All of my cats will now have medical exemptions from any more vaccines, as they have *all* had adverse reactions from them. Had I known then what I know now, I would have made much different, better informed choices. I feel it’s also important to find a vet who is supportive and doesn’t make the owner feel like a bad pet parent about *not* re-vaccinating an animal, especially a sick one. Thank you for writing/sharing such an important article!
