Cat Health: Overcoming Challenges
A Week of Cat Health Challenges
It has been quite an interesting week in our household. We’ve dealt with a kitty emergency that no pet parent wants to face. As much as I prefer holistic health approaches, there are times when emergency medicine is called for. I also tried a new product that I can’t wait to tell you about!
I woke up in the middle of the night last Thursday to find a big wet spot down by my feet, exactly where Lili had been sleeping. Upon inspection I found it was not throw up, it was urine. Lili had another UTI! Ugh. 😫 Luckily I was able to get her to the vet Friday afternoon just for a check up and blood work. Her checkup went well, and apart from her UTI she looked good. The doctor approved of the medicine she was on to treat the infection and support her kidneys, and we just had to wait until Monday to get the results from the lab.
We ended up in the ER
Monday morning I got two messages from the doctor, and there was deep concern in her voice. I had a bad feeling. I called her back and braced myself for the news. It was not good: Lili was in kidney failure. Her enzyme levels were very high, and we had to rush her to the clinic and get her on IV fluid therapy and medicine immediately. For three days she remained in the hospital hooked up to an IV pump while her kidneys were cleansed from the buildup of toxins. She slowly gained her appetite back, and she was especially joyful to see us when daddy and I visited her each day. She would purr loudly and cuddle as I held her, showering her with kisses and telling her how much I loved her.
Finally on Wednesday late afternoon she was cleared to come home! Her blood tests that day showed dramatic improvements, and she was eating again. She was so excited to come home! Check out her excitement:
Besides her medicine she was sent home with (that she does not like one bit!) I put her on Feline Renal Support by Standard Process which tastes like treats. I also used Relief Tone by Energetix to help her body recover. She’s also now on a special lower protein, low phosphorus diet including a phosphorus binder which binds the phosphorus in her food and helps it pass out of her body without taxing her kidneys. Dave’s Pet Food makes a Restricted Diet formula specifically for this condition. I add a little water to make it soupier. Lili now spends her days hanging out with daddy in the office, sitting on her own private kitty condo next to the windows, soaking up the sunshine. We are not out of the woods yet, however. She is not enthusiastic about her new diet and hasn’t regained her normal appetite back yet. I’m trying everything I can to get her to eat…but what she really wants is her favorite seafood/fish cat food which is too high in phosphorus.
A must-have flower essence product
Now let me tell you about an amazing product! I bought a flower essence blend from FES Flowers called Animal Relief Formula. This formula comprises of twelve different flower essences, and I think you’ll find this very interesting! Here’s a quick overview of what it can be used for:
* For any abandoned animal, whether feral or residing in a rescue shelter
* Any animal being adopted into a new home, or being given a new guardian or caretaker
* For loss of the primary caretaker due to death, divorce or changes in the family system
* During any time of significant travel or re-location to a new home or living space
* For any animal with a prior history of physical abuse, torture or abandonment
* For performance or work animals who are exploited, or valued only for monetary worth or reproduction value
* During times of prolonged illness, or extensive surgery; can be used in tandem or alternation with Magenta Self-Healer
* For any time of pronounced stress in the animal – such as the prolonged absence of the primary caretaker or environmental disruption due to any natural disaster. The formula can be used in alternation or in tandem with Post- Trauma Stabilizer
Flower essences can be used several ways: misting in the air, on food, in water, or topically.
Reduce stress and tension in cats naturally!
I ordered this product to see if it would help calm the tension between Gunner and the other cats. You see, Gunner wants to be top cat and be in charge, so in order to prove himself he stands up in the litter box and often pees over the edge. It was almost a daily occurrence and very frustrating. I began by giving a couple of sprays in each litter box every day. I held my breath every morning when I would go clean the boxes. Did I dare hope? Only one tiny accident in the first couple of days. Since then…nothing! I now spray the boxes every other day, and so far no more accidents! I think this stuff is for real! In an attempt to see if I can help Lili feel better and recover from her illness and stressful time in the hospital this past week, I am applying this to her fur several times a day. I’m hoping it will help increase her interest in eating.
(I also ordered the Magenta Self-Healer which encourages self-healing potential and physical vitality. I’ll let you know what happens.) If you have any kind of behavior issues in your animal household I would highly recommend you give Animal Relief Formula a try. You can get a 1 oz bottle for $14.80 here.
Let me know if you try this product and what the results are so I can share them with our followers! How can I help you and your cat? I’d love to know what’s going on in your cat’s world, so feel free to post a comment below.
